When I first quit smoking I was miserable. When I used to smoke, I would smoke a cigarette if I was Happy,Sad,Mad,etc. I always walked and smoked. When I quit, I would still go for walks to relieve any stress or tension but I would chew on a mint to substitute the taste of menthol.

How to Quit Smoking
1. Research different Methods
a. There is no right or wrong way to quit because everyone’s addiction is different. With that said, some people can quit without any aids what so over. Be warned though, The “Cold Turkey” approach is not for the weak at heart.
b. That is why there are many cessation aids to help you through the process. There are patches, lozenges, gums and even certain medications that can help suppress the urge to smoke. Any of these individually or in combination may be right for you.
2. Decide whether you want to quit, “Cold Turkey” or with cessation aids.
3. Consult your Doctor.
a. Regardless of which method you choose, it is always advisable to consult your doctor and ensure that your “quit plan” will not interfere with your health. This is fundamental; especially if you choose the medication route, where a doctor’s prescription is needed.
4. Pick your Quit Date
a. In order to ensure your success, pick a day at least two weeks away. It can be more but it is suggested no less. Remember that this is an addiction mentally just as much as physically. Prepare Yourself! Mark your date on your calendar and keep track of the days until you get there.
b. Make sure to tell everyone about your quit date! This will help keep you accountable because your friends will always hold you to a personal goal if you ask them. Plus, you don’t want to be a hypocrite, do you?

a. Make sure you have what you need in advance of your quit date. Why you ask? You can’t make any excuses for when your quit date rolls around. (Trust me; you will want to make many!)
